almost forgot that this is the whole point

One of the habits I’ve promised myself to stick with this year is resisting the urge to follow trends—whether that’s in fashion or the ever-changing world of social media. But I have to admit, there was one particular trend that caught my eye back in April. It wasn’t flashy or viral in the usual sense—it was simple, comforting, and deeply needed.
If you haven’t come across it, people have been sharing snapshots of meaningful memories—travel dreams fulfilled, quiet moments with loved ones, the beauty of nature—all overlaid with the reminder: “almost forgot this is the whole point.”
It struck a chord with me, and clearly with many others around the world. It’s a gentle nudge to remember that life is about more than chasing goals or keeping up—it’s about being present for the little moments that make us feel alive.
With my birthday just around the corner, I’ve been reflecting on my twenties so far—and what I’ve learned truly matters. So, if you’re someone who feels a little lost right now, maybe my story will speak to you.
I started out as the classic overachieving Asian girl—good grades, got into university—but everything changed when I lost a family member. That grief made me realise just how fragile life is. I ended up leaving university, unsure of what would come next. For a while, I felt completely directionless—unemployed, uncertain, and searching for meaning.
Then I made a bold move. I packed up my life and moved to South Korea for a job in education. I was terrified, but also amazed by the experiences I never imagined I’d have. Now, I work full-time in marketing and run this little newsletter on the side as a creative outlet and passion project.
If you’re in a season of not knowing what’s next, here are a few reminders I’ve learned the hard way:
– Life rarely unfolds the way we plan.
– You don’t need to follow the crowd.
– Comparison will only weigh you down—your timeline is your own.
– You don’t have to love your job; you just have to love what it makes possible for you.
You’re doing better than you think. And the good moments? They really are the whole point.
And just in case you needed another reminder, I’ve included a little video that might change your perspective.
