I’m no stranger to the grips of phone addiction, especially as someone who works full-time in social media and marketing. For me, stepping away from the screen and truly disconnecting is a constant challenge. Last year, a combination of work stress and balancing content creation as a side pursuit led to several burnouts, which compelled me to rethink my habits this year. Most significantly, I’ve made a conscious effort to be more intentional with my time—avoiding mindless scrolling and instead investing in the enriching experience of reading, particularly long-form content.
I shared this mindset with you, along with a series of article recommendations, and the response was overwhelmingly positive—many of you expressed a desire for more, as well as a need for advice on where to find long-form content. So, for this week’s newsletter, I’m thrilled to share with you my one-stop guide to discovering long-form articles and essays. I’ll highlight my favourite magazines, and websites, and offer tips on how to find long-form content that resonates most with your personal interests.
What is long-form content?
Before we jump into the where let’s quickly talk about what long-form content is. Unlike short articles or quick blog posts, long-form content typically refers to anything that goes over 1,000 words, often much longer. Think essays, in-depth articles, and stories that take you on a journey through a particular subject. These pieces are often researched thoroughly and dive deep into topics like culture, politics, personal experiences, or philosophy—basically, content that requires more time to read but leaves you with something to think about long after.
